Proper maintenance helps stainless steel chemical storage tanks keep good performance, reduce corrosion risk, and extend service life. The key is regular inspection, correct cleaning, careful operation, and timely repair.

Daily Inspection
Check the tank body, nozzles, valves, flanges, gaskets, level indicators, and pressure gauges regularly. Look for signs of leakage, deformation, surface rust, abnormal noise, or loose fasteners. For tanks with agitators, heating jackets, or insulation, also check seals, bearings, temperature readings, and insulation condition.
Cleaning and Surface Care
Clean the tank interior according to the stored medium. Use water, neutral detergents, or compatible solvents. Avoid hard tools such as steel wire brushes or sandpaper, which may damage the stainless steel surface. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly and keep the tank dry before reuse. For external surfaces, wipe away dust, chemical residue, and moisture to reduce corrosion risk.
Corrosion Prevention
Stainless steel relies on a passive oxide film for corrosion resistance. Avoid long-term contact with chlorides, strong acids, strong alkalis, or carbon steel particles. If surface rust spots appear, remove them with stainless steel cleaners or approved passivation agents. For tanks storing aggressive chemicals, periodic internal inspection and surface passivation may be required.
Seals, Valves, and Accessories
Gaskets, valves, level sensors, breathers, and safety devices should be checked on schedule. Replace aging seals and damaged accessories promptly. Safety valves, pressure gauges, and other instruments should be calibrated according to local regulations and process requirements.
Shutdown and Long-Term Storage
If a tank will be idle for a long time, drain and clean it completely. Keep the interior dry and ventilated. Close nozzles and manholes to prevent dust, moisture, or foreign matter from entering. Before restarting, inspect the tank again and confirm that it is clean and leak-free.
Maintenance Records
Keep maintenance logs for each tank, including inspection dates, cleaning records, repairs, accessory replacements, and abnormal conditions. Clear records help identify trends, plan maintenance, and support safe operation.
